RIFLE- SHOOTING.

AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. PRIZE MEETING CONTINUED. The forty-first annual prize meeting of the Auckland Rifle Association was continued at Penrose yesterday. The weather conditions made good shooting unusually difficult. The easterly wind, with " pocket 3 " or lulls, experienced yesterday is quite uncommon at Penrose, and it was a strange sight to see gcod shot.? missing the targets- Conditions at the long ranges were particularly difficult, and here several riflemen only recorded one or two hits- A miss among a run of bull's-eyes was the experience of several marksmen. Three matches were fired yesterday, and the long-range and short-range ' aggregates were also decided. To-day the Grant Association meeting will be held under the same management. A programme of 12 matches is to be fired off, and some of these will be particularly interesting. The presentation of prizes is fixed for 4 p.m., and a large attendance is expected. The following are the results: — THE ONEHUNGA MATCH, seven shots at 900 yds and 1000 yds; 34 prizes, of a total value of £22 10s. Tl. Pres. W. The. annual meeting of the Auckland Rifle Association was'held at the Penrose rifle range yesterday afternoon. Captain W. H. Shepherd presided over an attendance *of about 70 members. The report presented by the chairman refeired to the success, of the Exhibition prize meeting held last year, there being a record attendance, and excellent shooting by territorials and riflemen from all parts of the Dominion. Unfortunately, the .meeting was not a success from a financial viewpoint., however, and the executive looked for continued support both from members and .from the . citizens of Auckland. Captain Shenherd referred to the loss sustained through the death of the late Captain G. J. Dormer, who for many years was an active shot, and also honorary secretary of the association. The balancesheet of the association disclosed a, satisfactory Position, and he expressed the hope that the small deficit at present existing would be soon wiped out. - Officers were elected as follows:—Patrons.
