FOR THE LAND WE LOVE.
ARCHBISHOP'S APPEAL.
EMPIRE CALLS FOR MEN.
London, December 31. The Archbishop of Canterbury has I addressed a New Year letter to the clergy and laity, in which he says: " The well-being, nay the very life, of the Empire may depend upon the response to the call for. men. No household is acting worthily if itimidity-and self-love keeps back those able loyally to bear a man's part for a great Empire, and on behalf of the land we love. Let it be our task, if God grant us insight and power to raise hereafter even out of the agonies and terror of war, something better and holier than man has yet seen in the fellowship of nations."
