MINING NEWS.
ROSS GOLDFIELDS. £200 FROM 50 OUNCES. The weekly return from the Ross Goldfields was telegraphed yesterday as follows:—"50oz 15dwt from 1189 trucks." The value of this return is about £200. NEW WAITAIA. The north drive at the low level, New Waitaia mine, Kuaotunu, was extended 12ft last week. Nice-looking quartz was showing on a black flat head, which had come in from the floor, and gold was showing freely in numerous seams well distributed through the ore. WATCHMAN. The manager of the Watchman mine, Thames, reports that in the main level, No. 7 rise, the face of the drive was extended Bft last week, making a total of 58ft from the north end of the No. 1 rise. A portion of the reef broken out measured about 4ft 6in wide with a clean foot wall, but no defined haneingwalL The quartz was of a firm description.
