SYDNEY STEAMER SERVICE
MAINTAINED BY RIVERINA.
ALTERATION IX TIME-TABLE,
It is announced by the uddartVarker Steamship Company that an alteration has been made in th; running of the Riverina in the Auckland-Sydney direct passenger service. Up to a few weeks ago the Riverina was despatched from Sydney for Auckland on Wednesdays, arriving here on. the following Sundays, and sailing again for Sydney on Monday evenings. Owing to various causes the vessel has been detained at Sydney a day later than usual for the last three or four trips, and not arriving in Auckland until the following Monday morning. It has row been decided that this arrangement will be adhered to until further notice.
As the Union Company's liner Maheno has been withdrawn from the service, the trade is being maintained solely by the Riverina, which visits Auckland every fortnight. In future the Riverina will leave Sydney at noon on Thursdays for Auckland. She will arrive here on the following Monday mornings, and will sail on the return voyage at noon every other Tuesday. Instead of arriving back :<t Sydney on Fridays, as formerly, the Riverina will not be doe there until Saturday mornings.
The new arrangement will enable New Zealand passengers reaching Sydney cn Thursday mornings from Euruite and Continental ports by the regular mail steamers, to connect with the Riverina; whi-.h means that instead of remaining at Sydney for a day or two to connect with the steamer leaving Sydney for Wellington, the passengers will be able to tranship direct to the Auckland boat if they so desire. Passengers leaving Auckland for Sydney by the Riverina en route for Europe will reach the New South Wales port m ample time to connect with the outgoing mail steamers.
The Riverina will leave Sydney ?.t noon to-morrow for Auckland, arriving here on Monday morning next. The connection next week will be made by the Canadian - Australasian mail steamer Niagara. As the Vancouver service is now maintained by two steamers—the Niagara and Makurathese vessels remain "at Sydney only for about five days, instead of three weeks, as was the ca-x> before the .Manama was withdrawn. The Niagara is duo at Sydney on Saturday morning from Vancouver and Auckland. She is scheduled to sail again from the New South Wales port at noon on Thursday, November 26, and should arrive at Auckland on ilonNovember 30.
