CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION.
WORKMAN AWARDED £100.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN PON DENT.] Gisborne, Sunday. The Arbitration Court heard a claim yesterday for compensation made by Peter Schroeder, a Cook County Council ■workman, who was injured some time ago by a fall of earth, and claimed that attacks oi gastritis and neurasthenia resulting from the accident, incapacitated him from work.
After hearing a good deal of medical and other testimony, the president intimated that the Court considered plaintiff was entitled to receive compensation. These cases of neurasthenia always gave the Court a great deal of trouble. There could be no doubt, however, that a man receiving such severe injuries as plaintiff undoubtedly did must have suffered a profound shock to the nervous system, and he must be Very much depreciated in his earning power for some time after the accident. Judgment was given for plaintiff, who was awarded £100, together with expenses.
