SOUTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN
LARGE FORCE ENGAGED. MOBILISATION AT CAPETOWN. [BY telegram.—own COERISFOXDENT-] CHRISTCHUBCH, Saturday. A letter has been received by Mr. 11. C. Tennent. manager of the InvercargUl branch of the Bank of New South Wales, from hie son Harold, who is a sergeant in the Natal Light Horse. The letter contains some interesting information with regard to events in South Africa. Writirg from Capetown under date of October 6. Sergt. Tennent mentioned that a email army was being mobilised to go to German South-west Africa, and expected to sail in abmt ten days' time. At the time of writing there wen- all ready some thousands of troops operating there, but little had been heard of their doings. Just the day before 270 eick and wounded had arrived back at Capetown by boat, and the list of killed was beginning to assume big proportions. The Natal Light Horse were looking forward to being in the thick of the lighting. ,„«,.. It would appear from Sergt. Tennent s letter that there has been some fighting in German South-west Africa of which no news has been sent out by cable. Mr. Tennent has three sons in the Natal Light ft or —Captain Leonard Tennent, and Sergeants Hugh and- Harold Tennent.
