TEN DAYS' STRENUOUS FIGHTING AT ARRAS.
ALLIES HOLDING THEIR GROUND FIRMLY. BELGIANS TAKE PROMINENT PART IN REPULSE OF ENEMY. Wellington, October 21. The High Commissioner reports from London on October 20: — The allies have gained ground and repulsed attacks, and are now in the C'haulnes region, east of Amiens. The allies have been fighting for ten days strenuously north and south of Arras, and are holding their ground firmly. Advances are recorded on the La Bassee, Blair, and Saint Nazairo fronts. Further progress has been made by the allies on the left wing between tho Lys and the La Bassec Canal, in the direction <>f Lille. The allies, particularly the Belgians, have repulsed attacks and advanced to Roulers, north-cast of Ypres. The enemy's artillery has been bombarding, without result, along our front, from Nieuport to Loo, 10 miles to the south.
