The feat at Lille smashed the plan, and the C.ci man troops in the coastal districts are threatened with destruction. A French staff officer at the Aisne, interviewed, emphasised tho pre, change in the spirits of the Gorman troops since the battle of tho Mam- Many of the officers arc unnerved, while the prisoners d'tc! that the long and indecisive struggle on the Aisne told severely against the troops. The Figaro says the movement of tho Germans towards Northern France has all the appearance of retreat. It was primarily due to the splendid French and British heavy guns, which made the German lines untenable.
