STRENGTH OF BRITISH FORCES AT THE FRONT.
EARL KITCHENER'S STATEMENT IN HOUSE OF LORDS. "WE HAVE GOOD GROUND FOR QUIET CONFIDENCE." Wellington, September 18. The High Commissioner reports from London on September 17:— " Earl Kitchener, in the House of Lords, said: 'We have good ground for quiet confidence, but the struggle is bound to be long. "' We have in the field rather more than six divisions of troops and two cavalry divisions. These are being maintained at full strength by a steady flow of reinforcements.'" A British army division comprises 18,673 men and a cavalry division 9896 men. SECOND BRITISH ARMY NEARING COMPLETION. HALF A MILLION MEN FOR SERVICE ABROAD. London, September 17. Britain's second army of half a million men enlisted for service abroad is nearing completion. London's contribution to the force' consists of 70 000 men.
