DEBATE ON ESTIMATES.

Wet.ltkgtox. Thursday. The House of Representatives met at 2.30. The House went into Committee on the Customs Amendment Bill, which was reported without amendment, read a third time, and passed without debate.

The House went into Committee of Supply on the Estimates. The committee wa* considering the item £98,425 for secondary and higher education at the 5.30 ad journment.

On resuming, the vote was parsed, Th« votes for manual and technical instruction £81,665, training college £43.735, native schools £32,298, infant life protection £1541, were passed without discussion. The industrial schools vote of £42.198 was passed, the votes for school buildings, furniture, and sites £122.156, aria miscei laneous services £16,132 were passed without debate, and the total vote of the class, £1,227.522, was agreed to.

The State advances account of £580.29° was agreed to after a brief discussion. The Labour Department vote of £28.117 passed with only a short criticism from Labour members.

The vote for State Forpstrv Department of £31,542 was passed, and the House roso at 12.37 a.m.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

Wellington, Thursday

The Legislative Council met at 2.30. On the motion to go into Committee upon the Limitation of Imprisonment for Debt Bill, the Hon. R. Moore moved that the Bill be read this day sis months.

The Hon. C. Louisson saw no reason to alter the present law. The Hon- 0- Samuel hoped the Counci! would not reject the Bill. The Hon. J. T. Paul said the Bill was a simple one, and a logical continuation of the present law. The Bill was committed by 18 votes to seven, and left the Committee without material amendment. The third reading will be taken to-morrow.

The Council rose at 3.7 p.m.
