The High Commissioner reports from London on September 16: — "The Governor-General of South Africa, Viscount Buxton, has cabled to the Secretary of State for the Colonies that the subjects of South Africa are firmly resolved to fulfil their sacred duty by assisting with the resources at their disposal to bring the terrible war which has been forced upon His Majesty to a speedy and successful conclusion."

Mr. Lewis Hareourt, Colonial Secretary, in reply to Mr. H. T. Barrie, member for Derry, said the Government has accepted the generous offer of the services of the Australian Mounted Cadets' contingent during the remaining period of their stay in England. He had communicated with the War Office with a view to the employment of this efficient body in some useful and congenial duty.
