The Russians have extricated their army, and are adopting the defensive, while awaiting reinforcements. General Rennenkampf's army of penetration was only small, and was intended only to relieve the pressure upon France. It succeeded at a costly sacrifice, but the success was priceless to the allies. It is reported from Petrograd that the Kaiser is going to lead the armies concentrating against the cataclysm which Russia is said to be preparing. Excluding 400 guns taken in the Galician battle, 20 heavy German howitzers and 36 heavy cannon, bearing the Kaiser's initials, have been captured from the Sixth German Corps. The Novoe Vremya says that Wilhelm, not having succeeded in dining in Paris, is hastening hungry to Petrograd.
