GERMAN FORCE SURPRISED

COMPELLED TO SURRENDER

Capetown-, September 15.

The South African Mounted Rifles, under Colonel Dawson, after two night marches, surprised the German forces occupying a drift 60 miles from Steinkope, in Namaqualand, north-west of Cape Colony. After a sharp skirmish they compelled the Germans to surrender. One rifleman was killed.
