TROOPPR INJURED.

FALL FROM A HORSE.

CONDITION CRITICAL.

SEVERE INJURIES TO HEAD.

While rid in to the Penrose rifle range from the Epsom camp with his squadron yesterday morning Trooper F. J. Saxby, of the 4th Waikato Squadron, was thrown from his horse and received severe injuries to his head.

The accident occurred through the horse of another trooper kicking Saxby r 's horse, thus causing the latter animal to become restive. Sax by' head struck some scoria on the road heavily. The force, of the impact also broke the unfortunate trooper's rifle in two places.

First aid was rendered, by the commander of the squadron, Major J. Tattersal!. Saxby, who was unconscious. was then, taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he regained consciousness at about 5 p.m. His injuries are very severe, and his condition is regarded as serious.

Before joining the expeditionary force Saxby carried on business as a land agent in Hamilton. He is a married man, and his wife is at present in Auckland.

Inquiries made at the hospital late lastnight elicited the information that there was no improvement in tho condition of the patient.
