"O- — c SIXTY YEARS TO PAY. An echo of a divorce case was heard in t the King's Bench Division last, month, v when the. judgement summons of Thornley v Garrett camo before Justice Herridge. Mr. Le Bas, on behalf of the judgment f creditor, said the summons was brought t to recover tho damages, £4800, in a divorce j. action hi which Mr. Garrett was the corespondent. Ho was earning good money, and was living in good stylo at Surbiton. Up to the present timo he had paid nothing. Mr. Sydnev Frank Garrett, questioned by Mr. Le Bas. stated that he was living at Surbiton with Mrs. Thornlcy, in a house rented at £50 a year. j Sho has an incomo of between &000 and j £700 a year ?—I do not know. j "Do you mean to tell me you are living i with this lady, and that you do not know her income?" asked tho judge. " I do not, sir," was tho answer. Further examined, Mr. Garrett stated i that ho was engaged in the jewellery trade, and was paid by commission. I Havo you a motor carT —I have not. You are a well-known rider of motors, 1 ' believe? —I ride them. I believe you recently rode for tho i Tourist Tropliy ? Mr. Garrett 6aid his earnings had been ; £4 10s a week, but they had recently fallen off. ... I "1 submit, mv lord,' 1 said Mr. Le Bas, j "that tho debtor is able to pay this amount." ] "What! £48005" exclaimed his lordfillip. "He is only earning £4 a week." (To the judgment debtor): 'You must pay 30s a week." An order was made accordingly. The debt will take over 00 years to pay. j
