NEWMAN SOCIETY.

The usual monthly meeting of the Auckland Newman Society was held in St. Patrick's schoolroom on Sunday afternoon. Thore was, a large gathering of members, and the president, Brother George, M.A., gave an illuminating address on the work of the Catholic Church in regard to higher education. After a vigorous discussion on the Bible in schools question, it was decided to petition all the Auckland members and the Prime Minister to oppose, from tlinr place in Parliament, the passing of the Referendum Bill, because it would interfere with the sacred rights of conscience and religious freedom.
