TDTANEKAI ARRIVES TO-DAY BotstWierjs weather still prevail* in most parts of the North island. 11m conditions to Auckland yesterday were very cold and wintry, the wind blowing fresh from the south-west, while heavy showers fell throughout the day. La*t night was bright and clear, hut bitterly cold. Rough weather appears to bo general on both the East and West Coasts, and a number of vessels are being detained in consequence. Report* received from the lightkeeper at the Mannkan Heads yesterday stated that a heavy ma was breaking over the Mannkau tint, which tnmh it impossible tor small vessels to cross outward-bound. Tho Anchor Line's steamer Waimea succeeded in crossing inwards In the morning from Nelson. Heavy ma broke right war the little vessel, and her cabins were flooded, bat she came through without sustaining any damage. The Northern Comparry's steamer Rarawa succeeded in crossing outwards at eleven o'clock on Thursday night, bound for New Plymouth. The vessel was buffeted about by the high seas and she too!: over two hours to got clear of the bar. The flarawa arrived at New Plymouth at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, ami left on the return trip last night. She is due at Onehunga this morning. Owing to the high wind and sea prevail ing, the Northern Company's steamers Claymore and Kirou are still detained at Onchunga. The Claymore was to hava sailed yesterday morning for Waitara and Kawhia, wjiile tho Riran was scheduled to leave for fiokianga. An the bar was unworkable, however, the departure of tho Claymore was postponed until 8 a.m. and that, of tho Itimu until 2 p.m. to-day. Too Island steamer Talune, which arrived at Auckland on Thursday from the Cook and Society Wanda, and tho White Star* liner Delphic, which reached port oa Thurwday night from Liverpool encountered an exceptionally heavy gale all the way down the coast. The warship Philomel, which returned to Auckland yesterday morning from a cruise amongst the Cook Islands, also reported that bois terous weather had been met with on the coast for tho r>Mt few day*. Heavy weather has delayed the Government steamer Tutanekui on tho passage from Pvarotonga to Auckland. This vessel has been engaged for several days in the search for the miwing fishing boat Andrew, and was expected to reach port late last night, but according to 4 wirelcra reports received from her commander, the vessel's progress was being greatly retarded by very bad weather. The last wireless message received from tho Tutanekai stated that she would arrive early this morning. The south-westerly weather is evidently affecting the Manuka'e progress on the trip irora Sydney to Auckland. Tho vc»el left the New South Wales port at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and under favourable conditions should have arrived here at about 11 a.m. to-morrow.
