AVIATOR BADLY HURT. MACHINE FALLS 200 FEET. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright, MEi.Boun.vE, June 2. The well-known aviator, "Wi:ard" Stone, was injured yesterday during a trial flipht of his monoplane, which was wrecned. When 200 ft above the ground tho machine was caught in. a 'gust of wind, side-slipped, and crashed to earth. Stone's Melbourne-Sydney flight has been postponed indefinitely.
SMALLPOX RETURNS. Sydney, June 2.' The Board of Health returns show that 74 people were infected with smallpox last month. SHIPPING RATES RAISED., Sydney, June 2. Increased passage and freight rates from inter-State ports came into force yesterday. tho amount being Is 6d a tyn on general cargo and on passenger fares approximately 10 per cent. The increase will not apply to live stock.

For the Australian Steeplechase, there arc 64 entries, the 6ame as in the previous year, including Forest Prince.

A man named John Stenhouse has been sentenced to 15 years' penal servitude lor the manslaughter of Ins wife at Parramatta. During a quarrel on Good Friday while under the influence of liquor, he struck her several blows on the head with a hammer., inflicting fatal injuries. WAIPARA LITTLE DAMAGED. Brisbane, Juno 2.
