UNDER LEAGUE RULES. NOTES AND COMMENTS. The annual meeting of the Auckland Rugby League has been fixed for Wednesday evening, April 8. * The first annual meeting of the newlyformed Grafton Athletic Club is to be held on Friday next. It is pleasing to note that the club intends entering a team for the first grade competition. Although largely attended last, week, the meeting of players called by the disqualified Auckland executive was adjourned until Friday next, in order to secure, if possible, a still larger attendance. The second annual -i'-' '* of the Canterbury Rugby League indicates that the game is now on a fairly sound footing in the southern province. The Canterbury League is fortunate in having a fine ground t) -j Addington show ground, and the gate receipts an.our.tec! to over £400. Two other grounds were also rented during the pas(. season. The support given by the public, the report remarks, has firmly established the game in Christchurch. A pleading feature v-as the attitude adopted by the lady supporters, who voluntarily formed a committee, and provided afternoon tea on Saturday afternoons throughout the whole season. It is also pleasing to note that not once during the season was any player reported for misconduct on the field. The balance-sheet shows the receipts to have been £592 lis Id, but the expenditure was heavy, and the credit balance amounted to oplv £4 5s 6di However, the leagues prospects in Canterbury are evidently bright.
