This can be done at small cost. The mill is working well in every department, and a very satisfactory extraction etf the values is already being obtained from both the sands and slimes. The first actual return for the whole period ending April 9 will be declared about April 14.

THE TALISMAN MINE. DR. HENDERSON'S REPORT. REPLY BY MINE MANAGER. [bt telegraph.—press association.] Wellington*, Friday. The local board of the Talisman Company. Messrs. Jackson and Weston, and Dr. Knight, has issued the following : — The drop in the market price of Talisman shares is probably due to a report made by Dr. Henderson, now being issued by the. Government Mines Department, upon the Karangahake field. The attention of Mr. Stansfield had been drawn by the board to the report, and his reply by letter received this morning is as follows : — I should not be inclined to take it too seriously. "We all - Know Chat "mines"become exhausted or unprofitable finally, but the Talisman ha 6 not reached that stage vet, and neither Dr. Henderson nor anyone else can prove that it is near or otherwise.'' Continuing, he says : " No. 12 winze_ is still "all right, and we hope to get No. 9 going next week, if men are available." This is the opinion of our mine manager, who more 'than anyone else is acquainted with the idiosyncrasies of the mine and the -district. 'in considering the reports of scientific experts, investors should always remember that the older and more experienced the man, the less he is inclined to indulge in prophecv.
