CRICKET.

ASSOCIATION PROCEEDINGS. SOME BITING CRITICISM. [by telegraph.— correspondent.] Christchurch, .Thursday. To-night's Star says that in appointing the hon. secretary to go to Auckland to look after the council's interests the council of the New Zealand Cricket Association is following its usual policy of keeping matters entirely in its own hands. The council well knows that through its bad financial arrangements it will have to face a heavy loss on the New Zealand matches, yet it deliberately incurs an expense which could easily be avoided. It is simply inconceivable that there should be any matter in connection with the Auckland match that cculd not well be looked after by the local people if they were properly and fully instructed. However, this course would probably mean that some closely-cuarded information might leak outwhich, of course, from the council's point of view, would be simply terrible. However, if the hon. secretary can succeed in placating the irate Aucklanders over that balance-sheet, his journey will not be in vain.

THE AUSTRALIANS' TOUR.

MATCH AGAINST NELSON. VISITORS' EASY WIN. [BT TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, Thursday. The match, Australia v. Nelson, concluded to-day t.nd resulted in a victory for the visitors by ton wickets. Australia, in their first innings, compiled 175 runs, Trumper being the top scorer with 54. He gave a fine display being particularly good on the leg side His score included one six and four fours. He was beaten by Neal's third ball. Crawford was going nicely when he was brilliantly caught by Broad. Collins and McXenzie also gave good exhibitions. Armstrong, after scoring five, opened his shoulders to a ball from Lane and was splendidly held in the out-field by Saxon. Noble also had a short life, being clean bowled by Neale after scoring a single. Allcott bowled unchanged from the northern end and finished with a good average of five wickets for 80 runs. Lane bowled well, but was unlucky, having several easy catches missed. Neale. sent down eight balls and secured two wickets, Trumper and Noblo, for seven runs. Nelson's second innings was little better than a procession, and the first four wickets fell for one. Broad, however, saved a complete rout by scoring 19. Lane was the second highest scorer with seven. Armstrong's bowling was difficult to negotiate and he secured the fine average of seven for 14. Collins and Crawford divided the rest of the wickets. The fielding of the Australians w&.s particularly keen and no chances were missed. Dolling and Waddy were sent in to wipe off the required number of runs to secure a ten wickets victory, and this was accomplished. The batsmen then gave an exhibition. Boundaries came freely and 85 were knocked up in three-quarters of an hour for the loss of two wickets. Scores: — NELSON. First Innings I*s Second Innings.
