Two mm and one woman were the only occupants of the polfco cells last night. A meeting of the ratepayers in the A vondalo Road Board district has been convened for to-day week, in order to consider drainage proposals, alternative plans for which have been prepared. The Parnell School Committee wrote asking the City Council last night that the firebell and structure in the Manukau Road should be removed to enable it to secure a new entrance to the schoolgrounds. The engineer was empowered to act. > A boy was fined 5s and costs at the Juvenile Court yesterday for throwing atones on the drill hall, Victoria Avenue; and another was admonished and discharged for the offence of having stolen five boxes of chocolates, the property of Cathleen Barnes. The City Council last night received an invitation from the Orakau Jubilee Committee to be present- at* the unveiling of the monument, erected by the Government to commemorate the battle of Orakau on April 1 next. Residents of Bridge Street, Ligar Place, and the vicinity drew the attention of the City Council last night to a rubbish tip near the end of Grafton Bridge. This, they stated, was a menace to public health. It* is stated that he afterwards returned and threw a stone at the caretaker, and that the police are now seeking him in order to charge him with assault. . A resolution placing on record the valuable services • rendered to the city by the Into Mr. Andrew Bell was passed by the City Council last, night at the instance of the Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr). The latter mentioned that for several years in the past the late Mr. Bell had been a member of the council. Probate of the estates of the following deceased persons was granted by His Honor Mr. Justice Cooper on Tuesday :— Thomas Dean (Mr. Hanna), Robert James Parr (Mr. Johnston), and Clara Danby (Mr. Miller). Letters of administration were granted in the estate of MaryAuld (Mr. Alexander). Shortly before midnight on Monday. Mr. Henry Elliots, a grocer, living in Charlotte Street, Eden Terrace, was awakened by hearing someone at his bedroom window. He went to sleep again, - but was again awakened about an hour later by the window being shut down heavily. Upon investigation the mark of a man's'hand ' was found' on the sill, but there was no other trace of the intruder. ■■-•..
