C'rookes, late chief warder of ' I lie Mount Eden gaol, left Auckland last night to take up his new duties in the Wellington gaol. Prior to his departure lie was presented with a travelling rug by tho members of the Mount Eden gaol staff. The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) will visit Wellington, probably leaving Auckland nn March 30 next, on private business. Purine his stay in the southern centre Mr. Parr will attend to several matters in connection with Auckland municipal affairs. Mr. .7. Maughan Barnetl, city organist, has been appointed conductor of the Auckland Choral Society, to fill tho place of Dr. Thomas, who lias resigned. Mr. Barnett's duties will net commence until the present work in rehearsal, " The Creation," has been given. Mr. Barnett resigned the conduHorship of the Wellington 'Royal Choral Society on being appointed city organist at Auckland.
