To-day's issue of the Auckland Wkeklt News is a splendid number of the Dominion's most popular journal. One of the chief items of interest is a page of photographs taken at Orakei, where is situated the principal portion of Auckland's new drainage system. The huge tanks are depicted clearly, while the rest of the series deals with all the important sections of the work at Orakei. A picture of more than ordinary interest is that taken at the Auckland Exhibition on the evening of March 3, when the members of the Royal Artillery Band were given such a memorable farewell by 14,000 people. Illustrations of the opening of the new baths &t Point Resolution, Parnell, and of the Auckland Rowing Association's regatta at Shelly Beach are included. Amongst the many other pictures contained in the issu* are snapshots taken at the Auckland swimming carnival on Saturday, groups at Trentham, Wellington, where the Dominion Rifle Association's annual meeting was held recently, views of the improved harbour facilities at Gisborne, photographs taken on Rakahanga Island, situated in th« Mananiki archipelago, north of the Cook Islands, just after the hurricane of January 8, fetes and carnivals at Wellington, Hokitika, and Blenheim, magnificent heads of British Columbian big game, shown at the Auckland Exhibition, a new Irish postage stamp, which calls upon patriots to maintain the union, an interesting photograph, showing the size of the record kingfish caught off Cape Brett, North Auckland, on March 3, by Mr. J. Calt&orpe, of Auckland, and numerous other illustrations. . Included in these latter is a page photograph of bullocks hauling leg* through a creek, a typical scene at Whakatiri, near Clevedon."
