CANTERBURY MARKETS.
[by telegraph.—press association - .] Christchuech, TuesdayThe weaker tone of the English market and private ad' ice of a penny per bushel decline" in Australia have caused buyers in the local market to ease off in their purchases of wheat. The demand is theretore not as free as it was last week. Prices have weakened and there is a fairly large quantity on offer. Oats are still slow of sale and some of the lines offered are off colour, the best of the grain having apparently gone into stack. The potato market is still very dull. There is no demand yet from Auckland, the market there at present being well supplied, hearing in mind last year's experience, there is little desire on the part of buyers to do forward business at the equivalent of the prices now being asked at this end by growers. There is a good demand for cocksfoot and the prices for any clean seed are very firm. The bulk of the seed offered is, however, of medium and inferior quality and there is «i considerable range in values. Up to 4|d has been, paid for specially good aeed.
