LOCAL GROUNDS.

RUGBY LEAGUE'S APPLICATION. The Auckland Provincial Rugby League has applied for the use of grounds in Victoria Park and the Domain each Saturday during the coming season. On January 26 the city engineer recommended that pending application from other clubs only one ground each in Victoria Park and the Cricket Ground be allotted to ™, Auckland Provincial Rugby League, unly four grounds would be available in the Domain this winter and a small area at the northern end might be available. The Works Committee of the City Council recommenced last night that the town clerk and the city engineer should be deputed to act in the matter. The council discussed the question, and it was mentioned by several councillors that there had been trouble in local Rugby League circles, but they considered that this should not weigh with the council in considering any applications for the tiße of grounds. Mr. H. N. Bagnall moved, and Mr. A. J. Entrican seconded, that the report be referred back to the committee. Mr. Bagnall stated that unless this course were followed one of the dissatisfied League bodies would like an opportunity to wait on the council to present its views. A letter from the New Zealand Rugby Football League was read, stating that no differences existed between the New Zealand League and the Auckland Provincial League, and the League applied for the use of the Domain for three days for test matches, dates to be arranged. It also submitted an application from the Auckland Provincial League for two grounds each, in Victoria Park and the Domain, for the coming season for club matches, and one in Victoria Park for six days for representative matches. The motion was lost, and the committee's recommendation adopted.
