FIRST TEST MATCH.

AUCKLAND'S EASY WIN. The Australian bowling team played their first tost match of the tour yesterday against the Auckland Centre's representatives, the local men winning by a wide margin of 78 points. The game was played at the Auckland green, which had received special preparation for the event, and played keen and true Again the visitors found the green too fast' and they failed to keep pace with the scoring of the home teams. Seven rinks were occupied, and 25 heads were played on each, and on only one rink were the visitors successful the chairman of the touring team, G. Raffan' skipping his rink to victory. The president (Mr. E. A. Craig) and the executive of the Auckland Centre entertained the members of the Australian dowiing team yesterday morning and evening. The party was taken ill the morning . for a motor drive to Titirangi, where lunch was served in a clearing in the beautiful natural bush of Atkinson Park. The Australian visitors, who were charmed with trie surroundings, showed their appreciation ~y drinking Mr. Atkinson's . health with musical honours, and Mr. Atkinson made an appropriate reply. The views of sea and land which are a feature of the trip to Titirangi, also greatly delighted the visitors. The president and Mrs. Craig last evenmg entertained the visiting party and about 500 local guests at a harbour excursion. lne ferry steamer Kestrel conveyed the party and a most enjoyable time was spent. A number of vocal items were given by the members of the Lyric Quartette (Messrs. W. Aspinall, J. W. Ryan, H. Blakeley and Alan McElwain), and the Australian bowlers choir, led by Mr. P. Vallely. A dainty supper was served on board. Prior to tne steamer's return to the wharf a presentation of a set of silver-mounted hair brushes was made by the visitors to Mr. A. M. Bryden, secretary of the Auckland Centre, in appreciation of his efforts on their behalf during their stay in Auckland. As the Kestrel returned to the wharf cheers were exchanged, bowlers' choruses were given, and Aula Lang Syne " was sung by the full company.
