The third of the annual Christmas treats given by the ladies of Remuera and their friends to tho people among whom Sister Esther's work lies, was held in the Masonic Hall, in Upper Queen Street last evening. The fathering was preaidod over by tho Rev. Knmvles Kcmplnn, and some 450 mothers and children were present, the Beats at the long tables arranged down tho hall being comfortably tilled, as some 40 ladies, togethor with their assistants, attended to the distribution of a bountiful tea. At the close of the meal each child was presented with a bunch of flowers, ana after a short interval tho musical programme opened with an overture by the Mount Albert Orchestra. This was followed' by songs by Mrs. Hamilton Hodges, and a recitation by Mr. Horace Cribble, for both of which enthusiastic applause was forthcoming. hen, to tho children at least, came the event of the evening, as r. largo Christmas tree, laden with toys, was relieved, of its burden, each child receiving a gift. Bags of sweets wore distributed to the children as they left the hall. Tho treat was financod by donations from the friends of tho organisers, and will probably become an established feature of the Christmas season.
