Wellington, Wednesday.

Tho wharves were very busy with 31 vessels in port to-day, and about 1200 men were working. Twenty-five new mem-' bers signed on with tho union to-day, half of them being old watersiders. All the Harbour Board crane drivers except one were back at work to-day. The Bricklayers' Union has withdrawn its embargo 'against ttie handling of material bandied by arbitrationists, and will resume work immediately. Tho Tyser liner Nerehana got away for London this morning with a full cargo. Tho bulk of tho cargo comprised frozen meat, which the new wharf hands found some difficulty in handling at first. They Jearnt readily, however, and while the big boat was in Wellington they shipped 11,159 carcases of mutton, 14,135 carcases of lamb, 3741 legs of mutton, and 1542 quarters of beef. Tho agents are extremely satisfied with tho manner in which the work was done. Tho Nerehana also loaded cargo at other ports, and tho total shipment is as under: —Bßl7 bales of wool, 2353 bales of flax, 809 casks of tallow, 144 casks of pelts, 25 barrels of tallow, 21 bales of skins, 71 j casks of casings, 73 sacks of seeds, 549 sacks of caseine, 20 sacks of peas, 247 sacks of tin clippings, 1334 sacks of copra, 116 packages of kauri gum, 24 cases of sundries, 2765 quarters of beef, 46,660 carcases of mutton, 23,348 carcases of lamb, 3741 legs of mutton, 40 cases of kidneys.

After to-night the special foot constables, who have been protecting the wharves and environs, will be disbanded. To-day the Citizens' Defenco Committee adopted a resolution placing on record its "grateful acknowledgment and appreciation of the invaluable services rendered to the community, and of the selfsacrificing spirit manifested by the members of the force at a critical period when mob law prevailed for a time, and the rights of a free people wero seriously menaced."
