WOMAN TAKES POISON.

Melbourne, December 10. A sensational development has occurred in connection with the mysterious disappearance of several babies adopted by a Mrs. Newman, who yesterday committed suicide with poison at Mordialloc, after tho detectives had placed her under arrest.
The bodies of two infants have been unearthed in a fowlhouse at the woman's residence. At least four others are said to be missing.
The woman, who some years ago figured as the champion woman runner of Australia, has left a note, stating that her hus•band and children knew nothing of the affair, and that they thought she was receiving 10s weekly for the care of the children. The note added that the evidence was" against her, but that she was innocent of the charge.
