PROTEST BY A DOCTOR.

Melbotone, September 15.

Dr. Ramsay Webb, in his presidential address to the Medical Association, referred to the proposed scheme of national* insurance. He said it was not evident that there was any widespread demand for the system, yet the demand was assumed as a matter of course.

The medical profession, which had an' intimate knowledge of the surroundings and home life of the working classes, could not but deny the existence of any considerable number so destitute as to justify the adoption of the scheme. *

TRAGEDY AT ADELAIDE.

Adelaide, September 15.

A man named Frederick Henry Stephens was found dead in a paddock in West Adelaide at two o'clock on Sunday morning. Three bloodstained bottles were found alongside his body. A woman -who •was seen in Stephens's company during the preceding evening has been detained. She says she remembers nothing of the occurrence.
