DESCENT INTO CRATER.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (■Received September 15, 11.6 p.m.) Rome, September 15. Professor Malladra and two companions yesterday descended some 1200 ft into the crater of Mount Vesuvius. They found inbide the funnel at the bottom of the crater an enormous fiery cavern.

All their thermometers were lost through a steel rope fusing. Previous to the mishap 626 degrees fahrenheit were registered.
