NORTHCOTE FATAL FIRE.

DISPOSAL OF THE FUND.

The final arrangements in regard to the din. posal of tho fund raised to assist the widow of tho late Mr. E. E. Cooke, who lost his life in the Northcote fire, have now been completed. The trustees of the fund are Mrs. A. E. Leppor, Messrs. E. J. Osborne, W. J. Fleury, and Horace Stebbing, and the latter has been appointed managing trustee, "'he sum of £36). Cs 2d ia the highlyBatiafactorv amount subscribed, and it has been disposed of as follows:—Deposited in Auckland Savings Bank to the credit of Mrs. Emily Cooko, £100; to the credit of her child, £50; deposited in tho Post Office Savings Bank, £156 Os 2d. It has been arranged that weekly payments of 15s will bo made for a period of 12 months from the sum deposited in tho Post Office Savings Bank. At the end of that time the trustees may arrange that a portion of the money be used to start Mrs. Cooko in some suitable business on her own account, or otherwise, in the best interests of Mrs. Cooke. The sum of £26. at Mrs. Cooke's request, will be paid to Miss Kemp for services rendered cod loss sustained by her in connection with the fire. The balance of the fund wil' accrue at interest. In the event of necessitous circumstances arising, the trustees are empowered to mako financial arrangements.

At llio meeting held by the trustees recently, appreciation wan recorded of the practical manner in which the public responded to the appeal for help in this deserving case. In addition to the sum already mentioned an having been received, Mr Howe, of OuolninKa, forwarded on behalf of the Onehunga Brass Band an amount of i'X 10s 7d, which was handed, as requested, to Mrs. Cooke, for her immediate use Several small sums promised have yet to be received, and will be placed to tin rrenoral account. Mrs. Cooko has expressed her satisfaction at tho manner in which the fund is being administered.
