WHARF-SIDE EXCITEMENT.
PETBOL LAUNCH ON FIRE. S7 IMegfTßpb—Press Association—Copyright. Invercargill, Monday. Some excitement was caused at Bluff Wharf iibout 8 o'clock this morning a& tho Tesult of a launch catching fire. Messrs. Dickson and Preston's launch, the Viking, had just left the wharf en route to the fish • irg grounds. When about 200 yds from the wharf one of the party commenced to replenish the petrol tank. The latter suddenly overflowed, and the spirit becom ing ignited by a lamp hanging close by, the craft was soon in a blaze. The Harbour Board's launch was imHvediately despatched to the rescue, and towed the burning lamich back to the wharf, where a hose was in readiness, and the flames extinguished. The occupants escaped vithoui serious injury, and the damage is estimated at a few pounds.
