ARREST OF A CLERK
£3OO SAID TO BE INVOLVED.
A rorxo man nimed Clarence Harold Robinson, a .clerk in the treasury department of the Auckland City Council, was arrested yesterday by Detective Quarterinain on a charge of embezzlement. Tb is alleged that incensed on January 20, being then a servant of the City Council, did receive from Fairburn, Wright, and Co., Limited..'the sura of £l3 10s, and did fraudulently omit to account tor or pay the sum of £lO thereof to the City Council Other charges are pending against the accused, and the officials of the Government Audit Department, at whose instance Robinson was arrested, are malting further investigations in connection with the matter. It is stated that the amount already involved runs into a total of about i.300, while the Cit-v Council is guaranteed to the extent of £250 on a fidelity guarantee policy. . ' „. Robinson is a married man, about £i years of age. Ho had been for nearly 10 years in the service of the City Council, having ioined the service when a boy. Prior" to" his arrest he held the position of second accountant in the treasury department, at a salary of £2OO a year.
