ENDANGERED BY RESTIVE HORSE.
I [»r THUEGBAPH. —OWN COEBESPONDENT.J Hxntlt, Monday. All they were returning from .Orini on Ssnday night, Dr. MacDiarmid, sen., and the driver (Geo. Hancock) of a hired vehicle had a narrow escape from serious t injury. At a narrow point between the : road and railway, which are separated
; from each other by a wire fence, they ; met the Wellington-bound express. The | horse became restive, and backed down I the steep inclins separating the road from .the river, the backward progress of the j trap being fortunately stopped by a mass of blackberry and scrub. The vehicle capsized, the doctor and Iba driver being thrown with some violence. The horse kept its legs, and when essitance eamo an upward - passage
had been cleared. Both were able to complete the journey, suffering from numerous scratches and a nasty shaking. Several accidents have occurred at this particnlai.- part of the road, but sc far none of them have been attended with serious'results.
