Fifty men are being tent by the Department to ' the railway works at Huntly and Awaroa. Twenty-fire have already gone. Prefeienta of rraployment is being given to local married men, who axe used to pick and shovel work. ' , A large cumber of men have been placed by the Labour Department with fanners, especially in the Taranaki district. A difficulty in dealing with the present Situation arises from the fact that many of the men applying for work are young sijen, who have no settled trade, and are qu'.ie nnsuited for the heavier class of un- '"■' skilled labour. Some are stewards and ■'roaseabouts," The class that may be emjfcy«d when ruslrtime comes in tho country a: the summer, but who are not fitted for situations where the stipulation is made thet a man must at least be able to : milk.
