THE SUPREME COURT.
SEVEN YEARS IN GAOL, The Supremo Court sat yesterday, under the presidency of His Honor Mr. Justice Cooper, to deal with criminal business. ■, Three charges connected with, his alleged illegal intimacy with a little girl, 11 years of age, were preferred against William Murray Aitken, who was not represented by counsel. The jury found the accused guilty on all three counts. His Honor, in sentencing . accused, pointed out that the crimes of which he had been convicted were very serious ones. He had been convicted of incest, and that crime included the other charges. Crime of this description was such that it was impossible to "listen to a plea- for mitigation of sentence. As His Honor had some doubt, however, as to the extent of the physical harm done, he would not sentence the accused to the full term for incest, but would sentence him for indecent assault. The accused _ would be sentenced to seven years' imprisonment with hard labour, the full term allowable.
