ONE-TREE HILL.

A BALANCE IN HAND. The annual meeting of the One-tree Hill ratepayers was held last evening, Mr. £. A. Craig presiding over '• a small attendance. The annual report ttated that the general rate for the year amounted to £2359 9s sd, which; with overdue rates and penalties, made a total of £2522 19s 6d, an increase of £171 9s 5d on the previous year. The receipt from, the Government subsidy was £380 J.7s 3d, which was an increase of £23 78 2d on the previous year. : Licenses, registrations, fees, and building permits showed an increase of £51 14s lGd, amounting, to £265 0s 3d. The total revenue for the year from all sources was £3473 18s 6d, an increase of £19 lis 9d, but the previous — year's '■ revenue had included a Government grant of £519 4s, so that the actual increase was -really £538 15s 9d. The expenditure was £3102 lis 4d, an increase of ! £342 Is lGd, . the lighting having absorbed v, £257 14s. as- against £249 12s Id the previous year. The financial year had closed with a balance in hand of £1587 5s Bd. . ;;i The report added that the repayment to .." the general account . from drainage , accounts was £141 Is 6d. Advice had been received from the State Advances •Department to the effect that although the loan had been obtained at 31 per cent., the rate of interest on the unpaid balance would have to be 41 per cent. The board was' now considering the acceptance or otherwise of the proposal. Attention was also called by the report to the great . increase in the capital value of the district; the present value was £803,825. The new valuation made by the Valuation Department would be considerably over £1,000,000. -- During 1 the year -• * building had gone on apace, -and .no:-less "I than 88 permits , had been issued, £44 being realised from 1 this source.
