The Manukau County Council was taking steps towards the attainment of this object. v The board's . finances , were in a sound state, and the district was free of debt The rate levied was five-eighths of a penny) and this realised £735. Only one rate was now outstanding. The receipts from other sources had been up to expectations, and the year ended with a balance in hand of £316 15s 4d: *- Of this sum £300 * would be re- > quired for the work of -metalling the new roads through ; the properties of Messrs.
