BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR.

RETIRED FARMER'S DEATH

The body of an elderly man was found floating in the harbour off the beach at St- George's Bay,' Parnell, at about ten o'clock yesterday morning. The body was first observed by two boys, who at once notified the police of their discovery. Constable Magee, of' the Parnell police, proceeded to the beach, and brought the body ashore. It was found to be that of a robust taan' of about 60 years of age, fully dressed but for his coat and hat. The constable subsequently found these garments lying behind a boat'shed on the beach. Sergeant Cowan and Constable Baker, of the wharf police, had arrived meanwhile in a launch* and the body was removed to the morgue. It was identified later as being that of a retired farmer named T. G. Sadler. A cheque-book, bear-! ing the name and address "T. G._ Sadler, Fprnhill, Waipu," was discovered in one j of the pockets of the deceased. From inquiries made by the police, it transpires that tho deceased was a widower, and had been in fairly comfortable circumstances- On such occasions as he visited Auckland he was usually in the habit of staying with a friend, Mr. W. Kirby, of Canada Street, Newton. Recently, he had been away working with a survey party, and upon his coming to town, about a fortnight ago, had stayed With Mr. Kirby. The latter last saw the deceased on . Wednesday morning, Sadler then having stated that he was going to call at the bank to got some money. He had added that he would see Mr. Kirby later- in the day, but though the latter looked for him in the evening he saw no more of his friend. During his visit to Auckland the deceased seemed in his usual good spirits, and on Wednesday morning he had no occasion, as far as Mr. Kirby knew, for worry. The deceased frequently complained of .trouble with his heart, but had not seen a doctor. Sadler leaves an only son. , An inquest will be held at 10 a.m. today.
