THE YALDHURST CAMP.
VISIT FROM THE GOVERNOR. £by telegraph.—press association.] Christchurch, Thursday. At the infantry camp at Yaldhurst to-day the principal event was the ceremonial parade and march past, before His Excellency the Governor. Punctually at three o'clock His Excellency arrived, accompanied by General Godley, Colonel Smythe (officer commanding the district), and the district staff, all mounted. The brigade gave the Royal salute, the movement being done with fine regularity. The inspecting party was then played through the lines by the massed bands of the brigade. They then returned to the saluting base, and the order was given for the brigade to march past The marching into position was really the best thing that the brigade had done until then.
Lord Liverpool congratulated the offioers on the work done, and presented the Stead Shield to the First Regiment, and also several long-service medals.
