' - ' I DARGAVILLE CLUB. 1 s [BY telegraph.— CORRESPONDENT.] J DABGAYILLE, Thursday. I The final for the champion rinks competition was decided on Saturday last, ! when Speight's rink defeated that of Jervis by a narrow margin. At the ninth lead J victory appeared certain for the latter, as the score was then 13—4 in their ] favour, but the leaders stuck at the unlucky number for eight heads, during which time their opponents put on 11 c points, and secured a lead of two. On ■; | the next head Jervis obtained a lucky four , and reversed the lead, but a six to , Speight's team on the next head practically settled the match, the latter eventually winning by 23—19. The following is the draw for the second round of the pairs competition ;—Lane and I Drummond v. Speight and Costello, Mathe- i son and Brown v. Cook and Parore, and i Wanstone and Heron v. the winners of i the undecided match, Hayes and Smith v. Jervis and Thompson. _ « Despite the long spell of dry weather, 1 and a lamentable shortage of water, the 1 green is in exceedingly fine condition, and ; visitors state that it compares favourably > with those farther south.
