WHARF WAITING-ROOM.
CARETAKER TO BE APPOINTED.
The Auckland Harbour Board met yesterday, when there were present: Messrs. J. H. Gunson (chairman), J. H. Bradney, J. H. Adams, J. E. Taylor, W. Hutchison, C. Bagley, A. J. Entrican, H. D. Heather, A. Keyes, J. S. Bond, J. Fisher, and P. Virtue.
The board decided to appoint a caretaker to take charge of tho waterside workers' waiting-room on the Queen Street Wharf. The room is to bo taken under control by the board on April 1, and no more meetings of the union are to be held in it. The union wrote to the board requesting it to quote a price for the union's property in the room, and to have tho caretaker on duty from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The board decided to have a valuation, made and to call applications for the caretakership at a salary of £3 a week. THE WHAU CANAL. SPECIAL COMMITTEE SET UP. With reference to the Whau Canal proposal, the board decided that the question should be referred, for a full report, to a special committee, comprising Messrs. Bagley, Bradney, Taylor, Bond, Fisher, Virtue, Hutchison, Adams and the chairman, with Dower to examine Mr. D. B. Russell, who is asking for certain terms to carry out the scheme, and to take any steps necessary to obtain any information required.
