MIXED BATHING.

CmuSTUHTTiiCTr, Friday. At the last meeting of the City Council the Baths Committee brought down proposals in connection with mixed and family bathing at the municipal tepid baths. Mr. Taylor, the chairman of the committee, in proposing the adoption of tho clause, said that there had been considerable demand for facilities for family bathing. The commjttee obtained sets of rules from all the larger baths in London and had taken the' best from these rules.

The report received went to show that family bathing had been a great success. The committee recommended that three months' trial of the system be given at tho tepid baths, the time to be Saturday evenings between seven o'clock and nine o'clock.

Tho following are the proposed regulations to govern admission to tho baths during that period : " (1) Tho bath shall bo open for the purpose of family bathing at such times as the Council may from time to time determine. (2) The bath shall be cleared of genera] bathers half an hour before family bathing commences. (3) Bathers shall enter and leave on that side of the baths only on which their dressingrooms aro placed. (4) All persons shall wear the regulation neck to knee bathing costume, with the addition of trunks, to be worn over the costume in the ease of males. (5) During the time bathing is in progress no visiters or spectators shall bo allowed, and all bathers who have completed their dressing shall leavo tho building. (6) All persons admitted to the bath must bo accompanied by a member of the opposite sex. (7) No person under 18 years of age shall be allowed to enter the baths unless accompanied by an adult of the opposite sex. (8) The left side of tho bath shall be reserved {or males and the right for females. (9) No racing or fast swimming shall be allowed." The conditions are based upon those in force at Ealing and other London baths, but are rather more strict.

Tho committee's recommendation was agreed to.
