MEETINGS.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

TOT ordinary meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce was held in the Chamber yesterday. Present: Tho president (Mr. G. Elliot), Messrs J. Held, 8. A. Longuet, (J. Beattie, G. L. Peacocke, G. Aickin, A. B. lioberton, and Captain Colbeck. The Auckland Hardware Association wrote statins that English, shippers had notified local agents they could not accept plaster and cement for delivery in New Zaland porls, unless it was lacked in zinc-lin«l casks. It was suggested by tlie chairman that tho Harbour Association should be asked to make a proposal that would get. over the difficulty. Members said the sitter resolved itself into one of a settlement being arrived at with the waterside workers, by the importers and shippers, and was not one for the chamber. It was decided that a letter, in the terms suggested by the chairman, should lie sent to the Harbour Association.

GUILD OF MASTER PAINTERS.

The annual meeting of the Auckland Guild of Master Painters was held on Thursday evening, when- there was a, good attendance In presenting: the annual report tho chairman (Mr. .T. F. Benjamin) said, regardin" the proposed amendment to the Lien Act laid before the late Minister of Kailways Mr. A. M. Myers, by a deputation of master plumbers and painters, that the matter had been taken ,up by the Hon. W. F Massey, Minister for Labour, and was receiving consideration by the law officers of the Crown at the present time. An early reply had been promised. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:— 'Guild master, Mr. Robt. Court; deputy master Mr. O. Kerkin; treasurer, Mr. J. Tapper* secretary, M» W. Taylor; committee, Messrs. F. W. Brinsden, Mark Bennett, A. H. Lovatt, P. H. Manning, and E. Wheaton.
