THE BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
A WAY OUT OF DIFFICULTY.
The influence of religion upon education was several times referred to yesterday at the break-up ceremonies at King's College. Dr. W. C. McDowell said that while the present agitation for the introduction oi the Bible into State schools was in progress, those who had faith in the value of religion as an educative factor should do all they could to support the movement. But in* view of the crowded state of the public school syllabus and the difficulties that surround the introduction of the Bible on denominational grounds, no would suggest that if there could not be religion in the State schools, it would at least be possible to obtain a recognition of .it. At least at. the opening of sctuols each day there could be a reading of a selected portion of the Bible, and the repetition of the Lord's prayer by the assembled pupils. This public remembrance of the Creator in the days of their youth would be the means of conveying a wa\ ■; of blessing over the developing characters of the children.
