THE SEASON f :
.MATCH AT REMUERA. . There was an attendance of about 200 &% ! Eemuera on Saturday afternooai, iwhen^the, Auckland polo season was opemid '• with a * match between \ Bemuern, and QhiVsiGn. ; Al- ; though most Of the players were -out of ?, form, some good play .was witnessed, Southey Baker, Cotter, and; Aitcheeon . (Clevedon) , in particular doing excellent work. Clevedon scored four goals in the first spell, but Eemuera reduced this lead in the second spell by scoring three goals. Four more goals were added by the Clevedon players in the third spell, 1 but in the last fifteen minutes the Eemuera men played so well that th? scores were levol when .time was called. Extra time was played. Remuera eventually winning by the narrow margin of one goal. Mr. .7. H. Dlaton acted as timekeeper, and Messrs. Baker, Kettle, and Worsp were the referees. Afternoon! tea was dispensed by a committee of ladies. It is understood that two of Lord Liverpool s aides-de-camp are keen polo player*, and local clubmen are looking forward to having the benefit of their services later In the season. Prospects for a. successful season are bright, indeed, and it is considered more than likely that a team from the district will compete in the ftavile cup competition. There is a possibility of the tournament being held in Auckland this year.
