FOUR FATAL ACCIDENTS
ENGINE-DRIVER'S DEATH. FALLS FROM HIS CAB. [ui- 'tjelkgeaph.—own CORRESPONDENT.] Te Kern, Saturday. A shocking fatality occurred this morning on the ballast* train which left Te Kuiti for the south at 6.20 o'clock. As the train approached Puketutu station, about nine miles south of To Kuiti, it has to cross » bridge over the Mokau River. -List as the train' was crossing the Inidee the engine-driver, named William F Knisnian. was seen to fall from the m-ine. The train was immediately stoptied bv the fireman, and after a search of some 'minutes the dead body of the unfortunate driver was discovered under the bridge. „■,-•■ 1 Deceased was brought to le. Krnt.. and an inquest was held in the afternoon before Mr. J. Tammadge, deputycoroner. No definite cause could be signed for the accident by the fireman im f -uard, who both saw deceased fall. It is "thought the driver was leaning out of the cab of the engine to see it everything was running properly, and was .audit bv a bolt-end through one of the bridge girders. A verdict of accidental death, no blame being attachable to anyone, was returned by the jury. Deceased had only arrived at Te Kiuti the previous day, having been added to the local staff in consequence of the additions to the time-table, which came into force on the first of the month, and the fatal trio was the first he made. He was a single man aged 29. Deceased s relatives reside hi Central Otago, and the body is *» l * sent South for interment.
TALL FROM A CLIFF.
A MAN'S NECK BROKEN. t [EI TELEGRAPH.—TEES* ASSOCIATION-.] Napikk. Saturday. A widower. Yore Bagle, aged 53, was found at the bottom of a cliff 33ft high at tho end of Milton Road, this morning, with Lis neck broken. It is believed he fell over the cliff whilst on his wav homo last night at nine o'clock. Ho was a painter by trade, but had been unemployed for a fortnight. A BOY DROWNED. BATHING AT FOXTON HEADS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—rRESS ASSOCIATION.] Palmers-ton North, Saturday. Yesterday afternoon Calloway Robinson, a 12-year-old son of Mr. Robinson, flaxmiH manager, was bathing at Foxton Heads with other lads when he got beyond his depth, and was drowned. The body has not yet been recovered. KILLED IN THE BUSH. I YOUNG VICTORIANS DEATH. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Danxevip.ke, Sunday. A young Victorian, Neil McKay, 24 rears "of- age, who met with an accident while bushfelling. at Ruaroa , on Friday, died at tho Da/inevirko Hospital yesterday. When a sapling lie was cutting fell it dislodged the old limb of a tree which had been hung up in the branches. Tin's limb struck the ground and bounded towards McKay, who put 'out an axe with tho head foremost to protect himself. The tree drovo the axe-handle into McKay's abdomen, inflicting injuries from which he died, no operation being informed owing to his condition. Tho jury at the inquest returned a verdict of accidental death, with no blame attachable to anybody. Deceased's parents live in Victoria.
