Wetxincton*, Saturday. The Printers' Dominion award divides towns into two classes—over and tinder
2500 population. Linotype and monotype operators in the four cities employed by day are to receive £3 14s, and by night £4 2s per week; all others £3 10s and £3 16?. Monoline rates are: First division, £3 6s and £3 12s; second, £3 and £3 6s. Simplex: First division, £3 and £3 6s:
second, £2 15s and £3 Is. Bulk hands in cities, £3 5s day and £3 10s night; second stone hands, £3 10s and £3 15?. Youths and girls may be employed as justifiers or spacers on simplex machines and a.s caster attendants on monotypes at wages to be agreed on. Probationers may be employed on linotype and other composing machines for not more than six months. The hours are fixed at 42 per week. The efficiency speed of linotypes remains as before, except that 7000 is the minimum required in 15 months, and on tho monoline 4500. Piecework rates arc unaltered, except that night operators get one-tenth extra. For handwork tho rates are: First division, day £3 ss, night £3 10s; second division, £2 15.5 and £3. Weekly wages under the award are not subject to deduction save for holidays or through sickness or default of the worker. Preference is given to unionists if there is a member of tho local union qualified arid willing to tako the place of a non-unionist, but this does not apply to female workers. The award is for three years, until October 31. 1915. The Court states that it found it impossible to provide for readers.
